Provides professional leadership and supervises nursing staff throughout the shift.

Provides constructive feedback, coaching, and performance support to the team.
Leads the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager, ensuring continuity of operations.
Practices within regulatory scope and adheres to DOH and organizational policies.
Supports competency development and education for junior staff and new hires.
Maintains mandatory and medical‑unit–specific competencies.
Participates in clinical audits, research, and evidence‑based initiatives.
Demonstrates ongoing development in leadership and medical-unit management.

The Medical Charge Nurse provides leadership and coordination of patient care within the medical unit, ensuring high clinical standards and safe practice. The role includes supervising nursing staff, managing patient flow, supporting clinical decision-making, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Charge Nurse promotes evidence‑based practice, ensures medication and patient safety, facilitates communication across the healthcare team, and supports patient and family education. They uphold regulatory and organizational guidelines while contributing to quality improvement, staff development, and a positive care environment.
