We're looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to join our Commercial team in Japan and play a pivotal role in accelerating growth across merchants, strategic partners, and the broader payments ecosystem. Beyond driving new customer acquisition, you'll work closely with our Strategic Partnerships team to build and expand relationships with key payment partners, technology providers, and industry stakeholders, helping shape the future of payments in Japan and across APAC.
What you’ll own
- Drive new business growth by acquiring strategic clients, generating qualified leads, and building a strong pipeline of opportunities across Japan and broader APAC markets.
- Manage the full sales cycle from opportunity identification through deal closure, contracting, onboarding, and ongoing relationship development.
- Develop and execute market growth strategies, including budgeting, pipeline management, territory planning, and revenue forecasting.
- Build and strengthen relationships within the payments ecosystem, including PSPs, gateways, ISVs, technology partners, financial institutions, and industry associations.
- Collaborate closely with the Strategic Partnerships team to identify, develop, and monetize partnership opportunities that accelerate market expansion and product adoption.
- Act as a trusted advisor to partners and merchants, identifying opportunities for joint go-to-market initiatives, product innovation, and cross-border growth.
- Represent the company at industry events, partner engagements, and executive-level discussions to expand market presence and influence.
- Work cross-functionally with product, solutions, implementation, risk, marketing, and leadership teams to deliver complex payment solutions and strategic initiatives.
- Contribute market intelligence, competitive insights, and client feedback to influence product roadmap priorities and regional growth strategies.
- Lead strategic account and ecosystem initiatives that support Worldpay's long-term growth objectives in Japan and the APAC region.
- Other related duties assigned as needed.
What you’ll bring
- Strong ability to leverage AI and digital tools to enhance decision-making, productivity, and business outcomes.
- 8-12+ years of proven success in business development, strategic partnerships, sales leadership, and account management within fintech, payments, banking, or technology industries.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing partner ecosystems, alliances, and go-to-market collaborations.
- Deep understanding of the payments value chain, including merchants, acquirers, PSPs, payment gateways, card schemes, and alternative payment methods.
- Strategic and innovative thinker who can identify emerging opportunities, solve complex business challenges, and drive sustainable growth.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of negotiating and closing complex enterprise and partnership agreements.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive relationship-building skills across local and global organizations.
- Proven ability to influence and drive outcomes across matrix organizations and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Self-driven and growth-oriented professional with a global mindset, strong ownership mentality, and passion for continuous improvement.
