Target Applicants
- Target Applicants: Those who can join as new graduates in October 2027 or April 2028.
- Employment Status: Intern - Please apply only if you are able to stay in Japan, as the internship must be from within Japan. For those who live overseas, we will provide Visa support and accommodation arrangements.
- Work Hours: Able to work more than 20 hours per week. A 2-3 months of Internship is encouraged. Please consult with the recruiter if you prefer shorter/longer period

Work Responsibilities
- You will be challenged with developing features for the flea market app "Mercari," the smartphone payment service "Merpay," and the cryptocurrency/blockchain service "Mercoin" within Japan. You will join a team of software engineers with diverse backgrounds and expertise and take on responsibilities as a team member.
- Regarding specific tasks, you will be involved in projects aimed at improving the user experience (UX) and specifications from the customer's perspective for Mercari, Merpay, and Mercoin. Currently, Mercari is implementing various initiatives, such as improving the search interface and measures related to listing and purchasing. You will engage with the technology and data firsthand and produce tangible outputs.
- Ultimately, you will present your work and actual results at a final report meeting.

Qualifications
- Those who are interested in management and building an engineering organization and culture as a leader candidate (CTO, VPoE, etc.) who will lead the Mercari Group organization in the future.
- Those who can express what they want to do through their output and co-create with teams and organizations.
- Those who enjoy change and can boldly take on challenges even in unfamiliar areas or difficult situations.
- Shared belief in the mission and values of Mercari Group and its various companies
- Students aged 16 or older who are expected to join the Mercari Group as new graduates in October 2027 or April 2028.
- If you have work experience as a full-time employee at another company and that experience is within the last three years, you can participate as a second new graduate. Second new graduates should include their work history in their resume.
- Interest in joining the Mercari Group as a software engineer after completing the internship
- Possessing one of the following 5 "BOLD" characteristics:

Required Experience / Skills
- (For residents in Japan only) Those who have experience using various Mercari services
- Experience in delivering results through projects utilizing the latest AI technologies and tools
- Basic knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
- Experience developing/operating products
- Practical or research-level development experience in at least one of the following:
- Backend: API development experience using languages such as Go, PHP, or Java.
- Frontend: Development experience using JavaScript, React, etc.
- Mobile (iOS or Android): Development experience using Swift or Kotlin.
- Platform Engineering: Development experience using Go and Kubernetes.
- Site Reliability Engineering: Development experience using Go, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Data Engineer: Experience in data aggregation, analysis, or visualization using Python, SQL, etc.
- Security Engineer: Development experience using programming languages such as Go, Python, PHP, or JavaScript.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- An interest in leading businesses and organizations, with a desire for a future management career.
- Experience producing tangible results in a business setting, such as through internships or entrepreneurship.
- Experience with project management and/or team leadership
- Ability to design and develop with performance and scalability in mind
- Knowledge of object-oriented software development, networking, and memory management.
- Knowledge in software test including unit testing, functional testing, and e2e testing
- Knowledge of and experience with networks, Linux servers, surveillance systems, logging, and system operation
- Experience with development and operation in a microservices architecture
- Cloud development experience (preferably Google Cloud or AWS)
- Understanding of UI development
- OSS contribution experience / familiarity with OSS community
- Experience with team development using Git or similar management systems
Language
- English or Japanese: Independent (CEFR - B2)
- In Mercari, there are cases where Independent (CEFR - B2)-level English Independent is required
- In Merpay, Mercoin there are cases where Independent (CEFR - B2)-level Japanese is required

業務内容
- 国内におけるフリマアプリ「メルカリ」、スマホ決済サービス「メルペイ」、暗号資産・ブロックチェーンサービス「メルコイン」の機能開発に挑戦していただきます。多様なバックグラウンドや専門性を持つソフトウェアエンジニアが所属するチームにジョインしていただき、チームの一員として業務を担っていただきます。
- 具体的な業務内容については、メルカリ・メルペイ・メルコインにおけるお客さま目線のUX向上や仕様改善に関するプロジェクトに携わっていただきます。現在、メルカリでは検索画面の改善をはじめ、出品・購買に関する多様な施策が行われているため、実際に技術やデータに触れていただき、アウトプットを出していただきます。
