Mr D, a division of the Takealot Group, is looking for a highly talented Senior Copywriter and Content Strategist to join our team in Cape Town.

This position reports to the Head of Creative Studio

Purpose of the role :To craft compelling copy that resonates across a diverse brand ecosystem, including restaurants, groceries, retailers, and beyond .To collaborate with the design and marketing teams to deliver engaging campaigns, app content, digital experiences, and more. Play a vital role in shaping the tone of voice and communication style across channels, ensuring alignment with our brand identity and business objectives .To manage a small team of copywriters’ quality and accuracy of work.

Your responsibilities will include:

• 1. Concept & Content Development
  • Develop creative campaign concepts and write standout copy for various brand materials such as email, website, social media, advertising, in-app notifications, and blog content.
  • Collaborate with designers, strategists, and marketing teams to bring campaigns and creative ideas to life.
  2. Brand Tone & Voice
  • Act as a voice champion for the brand, ensuring consistency in messaging and tone across verticals (food, groceries, retail, etc.).
  • Work on evolving and adapting the brand voice to connect meaningfully with different audiences and platforms.
  3. Strategic Storytelling
  • Turn complex ideas into clear, impactful, and emotionally engaging narratives that drive customer conversion and retention.
  • Help shape brand storytelling to reflect our mission and differentiate us from competitors.
  4. Collaborative Ideation
  • Partner closely with members of the Creative Studio such as designers, art directors, and motion teams to develop integrated campaigns.
  • Support cross-functional teams including Product, Marketing, and Operations with copy needs that align with broader business goals.
  5. Editorial Ownership
  • Take ownership of written content for app CTAs, promotions,SEO-friendly digital content, advertising scripts, and long-form editorial.
  • Proofread and refine copy to ensure clarity, grammatical accuracy, and creative excellence.

.Attributes required:

• Ability to translate a creative concept into a clear content plan
• Strategically driven with a sound understanding of brand and business growth.
• Must be comfortable with writing in various styles and for multiple formats for example digital advertising, UX for mobile app, social media, performance marketing, in-app, PR, radio etc
• Active and well-rounded personal presence in social media, with an understanding of each platform and the best practices
• Detail oriented
• Excellent proof-reader
• Must be able to manage a team, a content calendar and an agency relationship.
• Takes initiative and works well independently
• Strong communication and time management skills
• An enthusiasm for being a part of a fast-paced start-up environment
• Blogging and ad agency experience advantageous
• An ability to write creative copy both for large pieces of content (e.g. product descriptions) and smaller texts (e.g. social media posts)
• Solid time-management skills

Qualifications ,Experience and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in communications/copywriting/branding/marketing/brand strategy
• Computer literacy essential
• Creative track record with 5+ years industry experience with a through the line portfolio
• Experience working at creative agency advantageous
• Experience writing for ecommerce, on-demand, or multi-brand environments (advantageous)
• Proven work experience as a Senior Copywriter ,Product Copywriter or similar role
• Portfolio of published articles
• Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems
• Basic keyword search knowledge
