Job Description
Overall Purpose and Objective of Position
Operate container lift and terminal tractor truck. Remove, store and setup twist locks on containers, assist service maintenance mechanic with maintenance and/or repairs of intermodal/equipment at a rail ramp, and general facility maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Operate primary and/or secondary lift.
- Operate tractor truck within LDCTL terminal facility.
- Assist in empty and loaded train write-ups.
- Unlock and remove twist locks from containers on rail cars to allow container de-ramp, place, and lock twist locks on containers to support export train loading and ensure proper storage of twist locks that remain.
- Help the Service Maintenance Mechanic with equipment maintenance, clean-up and assist in the shop as needed under the direction of Service Maintenance Mechanic.
- Notify Lead Yard Operator of need for repairs to equipment.
- Verify container pool integrity by performing container counts.
- Perform daily inspection of equipment prior to operation.
- Take orders from Lead Yard Operator.
- Work on job list for the day.
- Routine maintenance of the facility (yard, fencing, lighting, office building, repair shop & parts room).
- Follow all LDC SH&E policies and practices.
- Perform OTIS OSHA training annually.
- Perform all related responsibilities as required.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- Valid driver license (CDL preferred).
- Must be fluent in English required.
Experience
One (1) to three (3) years' experience operating Top lift or similar equipment preferred but not required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
- Heavy equipment operational skills preferred but not required.
- Job requirements include standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to finger, to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Also have the ability to speak and hear.
- Required to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities are required. These include good close and distance vision, color, and peripheral vision. Good depth perception and the ability to focus are necessary.
Equipment Used
Container handlers, terminal tractor trucks, man-lift, CB radios, & 2-way radios.
Working Conditions
- Fast paced operating environment.
- Work is performed in a typical intermodal facility with considerable amount of time spent outdoors.
Employee Supervision
No supervisory responsibilities.
Decision Making/Accountability
- Follow daily operating plan provided by the Lead Yard Operator.
- Perform daily inspection of equipment prior to operation.
- Report any malfunction and/or maintenance that the assigned equipment may need.
