Job Description
Job Purpose
To support the Housekeeping team in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation standards of guest rooms and assigned areas while gaining practical knowledge and experience in hotel housekeeping operations under the guidance of supervisors and senior team members.
Primary Responsibilities
Guest Room Cleaning & Maintenance
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining guest rooms as per hotel standards and procedures.
- Support the team in making beds and changing bed linen as instructed.
- Assist in cleaning and sanitising bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, and other fixtures.
- Dust, wipe, vacuum, and clean furniture, floors, mirrors, and other surfaces as required.
- Assist in replenishing guest amenities, toiletries, towels, and other room supplies.
- Ensure rooms are properly arranged and presented as per the hotel's standards.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, or irregularities noticed in guest rooms to the supervisor.
- Assist in following the hotel's Lost & Found procedures for any items left behind by guests.
Guest Service
- Maintain guest privacy and follow proper procedures before entering guest rooms.
- Respond courteously to basic guest requests and seek assistance from the supervisor when required.
- Assist in providing additional amenities or supplies requested by guests.
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach when interacting with guests.
Safety & Hygiene
- Follow all hotel safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.
- Learn and follow the correct procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and housekeeping equipment.
- Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and responsibly under supervision.
- Ensure guest rooms and assigned areas are kept safe, clean, and organised.
- Follow hotel fire, life safety, emergency, and security procedures.
Supplies & Inventory
- Assist in collecting and arranging housekeeping supplies, linen, towels, and guest amenities.
- Support the team in maintaining adequate stock of cleaning and guest room supplies.
- Report shortages or damaged supplies to the supervisor.
Team Support
- Work closely with Room Attendants, Supervisors, and other Housekeeping team members.
- Assist the team during high occupancy and peak operational periods.
- Support other housekeeping activities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of housekeeping work areas and equipment.
Learning & Development Responsibilities
- Develop practical knowledge of guest room cleaning and housekeeping procedures.
- Learn hotel standards for room cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and guest service.
- Observe and learn proper handling of linen, amenities, cleaning equipment, and chemicals.
- Attend departmental briefings, training sessions, and meetings as assigned.
- Follow instructions provided by supervisors and seek guidance whenever required.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and continuously improve housekeeping skills.
General Responsibilities
- Report for duty on time in a clean and complete uniform.
- Maintain high standards of personal grooming and hygiene.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Handle guest belongings and hotel property with care and responsibility.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards guests and colleagues.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Management of the Hotel.
Main Complexity / Critical Issues in the Job
- Maintain the required standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and room presentation while working under supervision.
- Handle guest requests politely and escalate matters beyond the scope of the role to the supervisor.
- Follow safety procedures while handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, linen, and guest room items.
- Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Adapt to a fast-paced housekeeping environment while continuously learning and supporting the team.
