Risk Product Analyst
DRW · Chicago · $175,000–$250,000 (stated in the posting)
- DRW is a diversified trading firm with over 3 decades of experience bringing sophisticated technology and exceptional people together to operate in markets around the world. We value autonomy and the ability to quickly pivot to capture opportunities, so we operate using our own capital and trading at our own risk.
- Headquartered in Chicago with offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia, we trade a variety of asset classes including Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy across all major global markets. We have also leveraged our expertise and technology to expand into three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.
- We operate with respect, curiosity and open minds. The people who thrive here share our belief that it’s not just what we do that matters–it's how we do it. DRW is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.
- Overview
- We are looking for a Risk Product Analyst to work directly with Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Quantitative Researchers across multiple trading desks and asset classes. The role sits at the intersection of trading, risk, and technology.
- You will be responsible for proactively identifying problems affecting our internal risk and valuation systems, diagnosing them by tracing the cause into the back-end services and infrastructure those systems depend on, and resolving them quickly and effectively.
- This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative role that requires deep knowledge of products and markets, strong technical skills, and sound judgement under pressure.
- Responsibilities
- Partner directly with Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Quantitative Researchers across rates, FX, commodities, equities, and crypto asset classes, serving as their primary point of contact for issues affecting risk and valuation.
- Diagnose and resolve issues affecting our next-generation risk and valuation systems, investigating across the full technology stack: applications, APIs, databases, messaging systems, and the underlying services that they depend on.
- Monitor system and trading issues and prioritize incidents based on their potential impact to trading, portfolio management, and P&L.
- When an issue cannot be resolved directly, identify the appropriate engineering, quantitative, or infrastructure team, and escalate with a clear, reproducible diagnosis that accelerates issue resolution.
- Work closely with Engineering and Product Management teams to identify recurring problems and drive strategic technology solutions.
- Develop tools and scripts in Python to automate diagnostics, investigate issues, analyze data, and improve workflows.
- Build a strong understanding of the firm’s trading and risk infrastructure and the dependencies between systems and underlying services.
- Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of financial products (cash instruments, futures, swaps, options) and markets, backed by strong technical skills.
- Previous experience in trade support, trading technology, production support, or a closely related role within a production trading environment – supporting multiple desks and/or asset classes.
- Ability to write Python and SQL to investigate issues, automate diagnostics, and query and reconcile data across systems.
- Familiarity with production diagnostic tooling (log aggregation, dashboards, monitoring, alerting).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to methodically narrow down the source of an issue.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a varied audience, including portfolio managers, traders, quantitative researchers, engineers, and product managers.
- Who We’re Looking For
- The ideal candidate combines strong market and product knowledge with technical depth and is commercially aware and comfortable operating at the intersection of trading and technology.
- You should be able to take an instruction like “my risk numbers look wrong” and work through it independently by understanding what the front office is trying to do, investigating the relevant systems and services, determining where the failure is occurring, and either resolving it or routing it to the appropriate team with a clear diagnosis.
- This is not a role where success is measured by closing support tickets. We are looking for someone who understands the trading domain, can solve problems, and can build strong relationships with the people running the firm’s trading strategies.
- The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000 depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, DRW offers a comprehensive suite of employee benefits including group medical, pharmacy, dental and vision insurance, 401k (with discretionary employer match), short and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance, health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts.
