About the Role 
Method Co. is seeking an experienced, dynamic General Manager to lead the team at Kamper’s Rooftop Lounge, located atop the historic Book Tower in downtown Detroit. 
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and guest experience of Kamper’s. This individual will oversee day-to-day operations while building a strong service culture, developing the management and hourly teams, driving financial performance, and ensuring the venue consistently delivers an elevated and memorable hospitality experience. 
The ideal candidate is a hands-on hospitality leader with experience managing a high-volume, upscale restaurant, bar, lounge, or nightlife-driven concept. They are equally comfortable leading from the floor, developing their team, analyzing financial performance, and partnering with culinary and property leadership. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Leadership & Team Development 
   

• Provide visible, hands-on leadership during service and set the standard for hospitality, professionalism, and accountability. 

• Recruit, train, coach, and develop managers and hourly team members. 

• Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture. 

• Establish clear expectations and provide consistent feedback and performance management. 

• Build schedules and staffing plans that appropriately support business levels while managing labor costs. 

• Lead pre-shift meetings and ongoing service training to ensure consistency across the team. 

• Operations & Guest Experience 
   

• Oversee all daily front-of-house operations and ensure smooth execution of service. 

• Maintain an elevated standard of hospitality consistent with the Kamper’s and Method Co. experience. 

• Develop strong relationships with guests and proactively address feedback or service recovery. 

• Ensure opening, closing, cash-handling, and operational procedures are consistently followed. 

• Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, organization, and overall atmosphere of the venue. 

• Partner closely with culinary leadership to ensure seamless coordination between front- and back-of-house teams. 

• Manage the unique operational demands of a high-volume rooftop bar and lounge environment. 

• Financial Performance 
   

• Take ownership of the venue’s financial and operational performance. 

• Manage labor, cost of goods, operating expenses, and other controllable costs. 

• Review financial reporting and identify opportunities to improve revenue and profitability. 

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning. 

• Monitor sales trends and adjust staffing and operational strategies accordingly. 

• Maintain appropriate inventory controls and minimize waste, loss, and unnecessary expenses. 

• Beverage & Revenue 
   

• Partner with beverage leadership to maintain a compelling and profitable beverage program. 

• Monitor beverage costs, inventory, purchasing, and controls. 

• Identify opportunities to drive revenue through programming, events, reservations, and guest engagement. 

• Collaborate with marketing and property leadership on initiatives designed to increase awareness and traffic. 

• Understand Detroit's hospitality landscape and position Kamper’s as a premier rooftop destination. 

• Compliance & Standards 
   

• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, liquor, employment, and sanitation regulations. 

• Maintain appropriate training and certification requirements for team members. 

• Ensure company policies, procedures, and service standards are consistently followed. 

• Promote a safe and respectful environment for employees and guests. 

Qualifications 

• 5+ years of progressive restaurant, bar, lounge, or hospitality management experience. 

• Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or senior restaurant leader in a high-volume operation strongly preferred. 

• Experience within an upscale restaurant, cocktail bar, rooftop, nightlife, or similarly elevated concept preferred. 

• Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor, COGS, inventory, and P&L performance. 

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain high-performing teams. 

• Strong understanding of beverage operations and bar profitability. 

• Exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to remain composed and decisive in a fast-paced environment. 

• Genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences. 

• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and late-night operations as required. 

Working Conditions 

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. 

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds as needed. 

• Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant and bar environment with varying levels of noise and activity. 

• Position requires regular evening, weekend, holiday, and late-night availability. 

• This role may involve working in indoor and outdoor rooftop environments and exposure to varying weather conditions.
