Special Procedures Nurse - Heart & Vascular Clinic

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Special Procedures Nurse (RN) supporting our Heart & Vascular team at our Orland Park clinic. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, the Special Procedures Nurse (RN) provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories: sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures, e.g., lumbar puncture, cardiac catheterization; This may also include specialized monitoring during procedure and recovery phase; This RN may have Charge Nurse responsibility for his/her assigned unit.

- Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
- Performs a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for each sedation.
- Provides patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; demonstrates knowledge of age-specific considerations in the provision of care. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs.
- Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed.
- Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians.
- Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working conditions; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person.
- Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment.
- Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies.
- Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with fiscal awareness and accountability.
- Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
- Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC.
Required Qualifications
- RN Required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; experience may be considered in lieu of degree in addition to 5+ years clinical experience
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois
- Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership/Management experience in area of specialty
- Experience working in a research environment
- 2 to 3 years of recent Critical Care/ Emergency room nursing experience (or 2 to 3 years oncology experience)
- One additional certification in area specialty
