Build and scale the Corporate IT department from the ground up—from strategy and budgeting to team structure.

• As the head of the Corporate IT domain, this role involves taking an end-to-end view across corporate IT, networking, on-premises infrastructure, cloud, security, and IT governance, while building an effective organization that leverages a mix of full-time employees, temporary staff, contractors, and external vendors.
• We are looking for someone who can delegate tasks to the right experts and make final strategic decisions, rather than a pure hands-on implementer who executes everything themselves.
• Currently, there are no full-time employees in the Corporate IT Department. You will be responsible for building the team and organizational structure from the ground up.

Background

Currently, the Corporate IT Department has no full-time employees. Day-to-day operations are handled by temporary staff and external technical advisors; however, there is a lack of leadership to determine departmental strategy, set priorities, manage budgets, and oversee security and IT governance.

In parallel with recruiting corporate engineers and network engineers, we are hiring a Department Head / Manager to bring these efforts together and lead the team.

Main Duties

• IT Strategy & Policy: Formulate overall strategy and policy for the IT department.
• Prioritization & Resource Allocation: Define priorities and operational roadmaps for IT initiatives.
• Team Management: Manage and mentor corporate engineers and network engineers.
• Vendor & Workforce Management: Oversee temporary staff, contractors, and external vendor relationships.
• IT Budgeting & Financial Planning: Design and manage the IT budget from scratch (as formal budgeting frameworks are currently being established).
• SaaS & Tool Selection: Evaluate, select, and implement SaaS tools and enterprise IT services.
• Asset & License Management: Oversee IT asset tracking and software license compliance.
• Information Security Strategy: Plan and execute information security measures and governance frameworks.
• Incident Management: Drive response efforts for IT-related incidents and operational disruptions.
• Audit & Compliance: Lead preparations and responses for external audits, including ISMS compliance.
• Contract & Legal Coordination: Coordinate with the legal team on IT-related contracts and compliance matters.
• Stakeholder Alignment & Executive Reporting: Report, propose, and align IT strategies with division heads, executive directors, and the Board of Directors.
• Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Collaborate and align closely with internal stakeholders, including the R&D/Engineering department.
• IT Roadmap Development: Establish long-term IT roadmaps aligned with business growth.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Cross-Functional Leadership: Track record of leading multiple domains across Corporate IT, internal systems, and IT infrastructure.
• Project & Team Leadership: Proven experience leading IT projects or engineering teams.
• Vendor & Contractor Management: Experience managing external vendors, consultants, and contractors.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Strong track record in defining requirements and managing priority trade-offs with internal stakeholders.
• Broad Domain Literacy: Foundational knowledge across networking, cloud, SaaS, endpoint management, and security, with the ability to engage in technical discussions with domain specialists.
• Incident Management: Ability to make sound engineering judgments and execute appropriate escalations during outages or security incidents.
• Executive Communication: Strong presentation and communication skills for interacting with executive leadership and management teams.

Key Clarification on Hands-on Technical Skills

• Hands-on Implementation is NOT Required for the Following:(e.g., FortiGate, Meraki, AWS, Google Cloud, Jamf, Intune, Python, Kubernetes, Linux server setup, etc.)
• Core Focus:Direct execution/implementation is not mandatory. What we value most is the ability to comprehend technical explanations from specialists and evaluate risk, cost, and priority to make informed decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• IT Management Experience: Proven experience as an IT Manager or IT Department Lead.
• Financial Planning & Budgeting: Experience in formulating and managing IT budgets.
• Audit & Compliance: Hands-on experience responding to audits such as ISMS (ISO 27001), SOC 2, or PrivacyMark (P-Mark).
• Security Risk Management: Experience conducting security risk assessments and vulnerability evaluations.
• SOC Operations: Experience in managing or overseeing Security Operations Center (SOC) functions.
• IT Governance: Practical experience establishing or maintaining IT governance frameworks and internal controls.
• IT Legal & Contracts: Experience in IT legal affairs, including negotiating and managing SaaS agreements, software licenses, and vendor contracts.
• Data Privacy & Protection: Knowledge of regulations and best practices regarding the handling of personal data and confidential information.
• SaaS Implementation: Experience leading end-to-end SaaS selection and rollout projects.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Exposure to or experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
• On-Premises Networking: Familiarity with or experience in on-premises network infrastructure.

Note: While all core duties can be conducted entirely in Japanese, our R&D/Engineering department includes non-Japanese engineers. Being able to communicate in English—whether via Slack chat, daily conversation, or explaining simple technical concepts—will be a strong advantage. Fluent business English is not required.

While remote work is possible, this role is primarily expected to be office-based.

Most of our engineers and researchers also work on-site, conducting research and development directly in front of the robots.

We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand. The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
