GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Satellite Manufacturing Engineer in our EMS Space Systems Manufacturing group in Centennial, CO. With limited direction, this position supports and executes the manufacturing through AIT of the efficient and economical fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies of a spacecraft build from component though spacecraft EVT and delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and support the planning, fabrication, and procurement of satellite component piece parts, long lead items, MGSE, EGSE that are needed in accordance with the spacecraft BOM and testing requirements.
- Work closely with design engineering to understand component part designs though NHA impact, perform GD&T analysis and DFM where possible to ensure the best manufacturability, and finally approve the component part or assembly design for release to production.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, systems) to ensure manufacturing processes and priorities are aligned with design requirements.
- Support the spacecraft assembly integration engineer and testing engineers IAW with spacecraft AIT plan to help ensure all safety, quality, schedule and cost program goals.
- Support the assembly, integration, and testing of complex systems, including payloads, communication and propulsion systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to assembly, integration, and testing.
- Complete non-conformance reports driving to root cause and corrective action.
- Track an item LOB and provide regular status reports on manufacturing progress, identifying risks or delays to ensure timely project completion.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including assembly instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures. Interfaces and collaborates with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products.
- Provides guidance to product design engineering on technical specifications that will best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
- Ensures that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
- Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
- Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to staff.
- May be required to make technical presentations to staff.
- May provide direction to less experienced professionals, design staff or technicians.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
