Overview

Title: Midweight Designer

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Reporting to: Creative Director

The role will collaborate closely with the Art Director and Creative Director to develop and execute creative projects across a range of platforms. The Midweight Designer is responsible for producing high-quality, cohesive work that follows brand standards and responds effectively to creative direction. Working with designers, multimedia editors and writers, the successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative environment focused on craft excellence and impactful visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

CREATIVE COLLABORATION:

Work in partnership with Art Directors, Creative Directors and senior team members to develop and execute creative concepts that are fit-for-platform.
Collaborate with designers, copywriters, editors and other team members to ensure cohesive and high-quality deliverables.

ART DIRECTION:

Working under the guidance of the Art Director and Creative Director, translate creative requirements into visually engaging and brand-consistent design solutions.
Support the Art Director and Creative Director in developing creative assets that align with the client's and global lead agency's vision and objectives.
Adapt globally developed campaigns into locally relevant executions.

DESIGN EXECUTION:

Produce compelling designs and storyboards for a variety of media, including digital, print, social and multimedia.
Ensure all creative work is executed on-brand and to the quality standards expected by Publicis Production.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

Manage assigned projects, timelines and priorities effectively, with guidance where required.
Liaise with the Art Director to review design solutions, receive feedback and make the necessary adjustments to projects.

INNOVATION AND TRENDS:

Stay up to date with industry trends and apply relevant techniques and ideas to projects.
Contribute to a culture of creativity, collaboration and innovation within the team.

QUALITY ASSURANCE:

Receive and implement feedback from the Art Director and senior creative team to maintain quality and consistency.
Check final creative work for accuracy, brand consistency and alignment with client expectations before submission.

Qualifications

Relevant experience as a designer or in a similar design role within an advertising agency, production studio or creative environment.
A strong portfolio demonstrating capability across digital, print, social and multimedia design.
Strong design, communication and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in relevant creative tools and software, including Adobe Creative Cloud.
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assigned projects and deadlines.
A passion for craft excellence, continuous learning and staying current with industry trends.

This role requires a capable conceptual thinker who can translate creative direction into compelling design solutions while balancing client needs and brand objectives.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail, solid craft skills and a willingness to learn and develop.
Flexibility and adaptability are crucial, as the Midweight Designer will work across multiple projects, evolving briefs and dynamic market conditions.
