Ensures both personnel and vehicle readiness and availability to respond to accident or sudden illness or emergencies.

A DOH-licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing immediate pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients in accordance with Department of Health (DOH) regulations, approved clinical protocols, and scope of practice. Duties include responding to emergency calls, assessing patients’ conditions, performing basic life support (BLS), administering first aid, monitoring vital signs, assisting with patient stabilization, and ensuring safe transportation to appropriate healthcare facilities. The EMT operates and maintains emergency medical equipment, documents patient assessments and treatments accurately, communicates effectively with emergency response teams and healthcare professionals, and ensures ambulance readiness, infection control, and patient safety.
