This opening is for a Staff Engineer - Mechanical Design - Airfoils in GE9X HPC module within High Pressure Compressor section at GE Aerospace Bangalore Engineering Center.
Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. You will be required to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team including but not limited to Supply chain, Assembly, Systems, Programs, Manufacturing Programs, Quality, Repairs, PSE, Materials and other functional teams to achieve the desired outcome for the module.

Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.

Role Overview:

Execute the design, analysis, evaluation of High Pressure Compressor airfoils for GE9X program using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
Execute design and analysis activities for airfoils of High Pressure compressor module for GE9X program working on, but not limited to, non-conformances of parts in shop, collaborate with PSE for developing field plan, performance improvements, durability and producibility improvements. Lead technical projects with moderate to high complexity through collaboration.
Foster and inspire a collaborative work style and display team-oriented behavior with proactive communication internally and externally
Leverage digital tools & analyze the data insights to drive appropriate actions
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
Provide engineering support, within one’s specialty, to teams working on performance, durability, cost reduction and quality initiatives. Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
Leverage expertise to resolve problems in the field or during the manufacturing processes.
Make recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools

Required Qualifications

Bachelors /Masters/PhD in Mechanical Engineering specialization with strong academic track record.
12+ years of relevant experience on Mechanical design/hardware ownership/ Finite element analysis of rotating parts preferably in aircraft engine/gas turbine domain.
Strong engineering problem solving capabilities.
Strong project management skills including cross-functional coordination of activities.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization both internally and externally.
Ability and willingness to travel as required.

Execute design and analysis activities for structural and rotating parts of cold and hot sections modules of engines for issue resolution, performance improvements, cost/weight reduction, Durability and producibility improvements

Roles and Responsibilities

Execute design and analysis activities for structural and rotating parts of cold and hot sections modules of engines for issue resolution, performance improvements, cost/weight reduction, Durability and producibility improvements
Drive and deliver on cost, performance & weight targets
Should collaborate with PSE for developing field plan
Should network & establish strong connections with Commodity CTHs, Cross functional teams viz. Supply Chain, Repair, MAE, CTPs and Shop technical teams to develop strategies for achieving the desired outcomes
Foster and inspire a collaborative work style and display team-oriented behavior with proactive communication internally and externally
Provide technical guidance & mentor engineers in team
Leverage digital tools & analyze the data insights to drive appropriate actions

Required Qualifications

PhD/MTech /MS/BTech/BE in Mechanical/Aerospace
12+ years of relevant experience on Mechanical design/hardware ownership/ Finite element analysis of rotating parts preferably in aircraft engine/gas turbine domain.
In-depth understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams
Ability to navigate through uncertainties and define the path for the teams.

Desired Characteristics

Exposure to Heat transfer analysis, Lifing methodologies, Manufacturing processes will be added advantage
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Ability to influence others and lead small teams. Lead initiatives of moderate to complex scope and impact.
Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
Effective problem identification and solution skills.
Proven analytical and organizational ability.
