Job Description

Seeking a hands-on Senior Technician to prepare samples, configure equipment, build and install test setups, and execute mechanical, shock/vibration, and controlled-heating tests under engineering direction. This role requires strong experience with Instron systems, Digital Image Correlation (DIC), instrumentation, environmental chambers, test documentation, troubleshooting, and safe laboratory execution.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare tensile dog-bone, compression, and other mechanical test specimens, including cutting or machining samples from finished components or batteries.
Configure and operate Instron systems for tensile and compression testing, including programming test speeds, load/displacement control, grips, fixtures, and data collection.
Develop, install, and troubleshoot mechanical test setups and fixtures according to engineering requirements.
Set up and operate Digital Image Correlation (DIC), including specimen speckling, camera positioning, calibration, and high-speed/high-frame-rate image capture for strain measurement.
Support fixture design using CAD and assist with sample gripping and preparation.
Set up shock/vibration testing, install test articles, attach accelerometers, verify instrumentation, and capture high-speed dynamic data.
Program and operate temperature/humidity environmental chambers and ovens according to prescribed heating profiles.
Install thermocouples and support temperature, pressure, flow, swelling, and deformation measurements.
Support battery cell/module teardown and sample preparation as needed.
Perform basic data checks and provide complete test records to engineers.
Document SOPs, test configurations, equipment settings, sample details, observations, and results.
Guide other technicians and troubleshoot equipment or test setup issues.
Maintain safe laboratory practices while working with samples, fixtures, instrumentation, and test equipment.

Required Qualifications

Senior-level hands-on experience in a mechanical, structural, reliability, automotive, consumer electronics, or similar testing laboratory.
Strong hands-on experience with Instron equipment and associated control/data-acquisition software.
Experience programming Instron controllers for different speeds and load vs. displacement control.
Experience preparing specimens and performing tensile and compression tests.
Hands-on DIC experience for strain measurement, including high-speed/high-frame-rate camera-based measurement.
Experience with fixture design/CAD, fixture installation, and sample preparation.
Experience with shock/vibration testing, accelerometers, motion/acceleration measurement, and dynamic data acquisition.
Experience with thermocouple mounting, temperature measurement, pressure sensors, and flow-rate sensors.
Experience operating ovens and temperature/humidity environmental chambers, including temperature and pressure monitoring.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and test setups, follow engineering procedures, and produce accurate test documentation.
Strong execution focus and ability to work from procedures defined by Mechanical/Thermal Test Engineers.

Preferred

Battery cell/module teardown or battery testing experience.
Basic machining, laser cutting, water-jet cutting, or similar sample-preparation experience.
Product safety and reliability testing experience.
Battery cycling experience is not required.

Mandatory Skills: CAETools . Experience: 3-5 Years .The expected compensation for this role ranges from $60,000 to $140,000 . Final compensation will depend on various factors, including your geographical location, minimum wage obligations, skills, and relevant experience.
