Head of Tax & Treasury - Argos
Argos · London
About the team
Our Finance division helps Argos make well-informed decisions, protect value and operate with confidence in a complex tax and treasury environment. The Tax and Treasury team brings together specialists across Corporate Tax, VAT and Indirect Taxes, Customs, Employment Taxes and Treasury, working closely with senior leaders and teams across the business. This is an opportunity to lead a function with broad commercial reach and a direct impact on governance, risk, cash and strategic decision-making.
More about the role
As Head of Tax and Treasury, you will be accountable for the company’s tax and treasury affairs and will personally lead Corporate Tax. Reporting to the Argos CFO, you will set and implement the Group’s Tax and Treasury strategy, policies, governance and risk framework, while leading a team of specialist managers and tax professionals.
Day to day, you will oversee accurate and timely compliance, tax accounting, external reporting and treasury activity. You will advise on business initiatives, financing decisions and significant corporate transactions; lead relationships with HMRC, auditors and external advisers; and provide clear reporting on tax risk, disputes, cash tax and the effective tax rate. You will also drive improvements in processes, controls, data and automation, while ensuring the function has the capability and resilience to respond to regulatory and business change.
More about you
You will bring proven UK tax expertise, with the technical depth to lead Corporate Tax matters and the breadth to provide effective oversight across VAT and Indirect Taxes, Customs and Employment Taxes. You will be comfortable applying tax accounting and financial reporting requirements, assessing risk and translating complex technical matters into clear commercial choices for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
You will be an inclusive and accountable leader who develops specialist capability, sets clear priorities and supports effective decision-making. Demonstrable professional judgement, integrity and constructive challenge will be important, alongside a pragmatic approach to delivery. You will be able to build credible relationships with HMRC, advisers and auditors, and use data, systems and process improvement to strengthen controls and make the function more effective.
