About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and people-focused Charge Nurse to join our team across White Cross New Brighton and White Cross Aranui.
This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical leader who is passionate about developing nurses, championing high-quality patient care, and fostering a positive team culture. As Charge Nurse, you will lead and support nursing teams across both clinics, helping them work to the full breadth of their scope while continuing to deliver exceptional care to their local communities.
White Cross New Brighton is a trusted clinic located in Christchurch's up and coming seaside community, while White Cross Aranui is a smaller community-focused clinic with a supportive multidisciplinary team and two experienced nurses. Together, these clinics provide the opportunity to lead across diverse settings while working alongside teams that are warm, welcoming, and committed to supporting each other and the communities they serve.
Working closely with General Practitioners, nurses, healthcare technicians, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help create an environment where patients receive the best possible care and staff feel supported to thrive.
What You Will Do
As a valued member of the leadership team, you will:
- Provide day to day leadership and support to the nursing team.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-centred team culture.
- Support nurses to work to the full breadth of their scope of practice.
- Identify opportunities for nursing development, capability building, and career progression.
- Support and encourage nurse prescribing and leadership development pathways.
- Maintain high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and professional practice.
- Partner with clinicians and multidisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated care.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.
- Contribute to the delivery and growth of services including spirometry and sleep studies.
- Act as a clinical resource and role model for the wider team.
What You Will Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Previous leadership experience within Primary Care, General Practice, Urgent Care, or a similar healthcare setting.
- Strong clinical knowledge and sound nursing judgement.
- A calm, approachable, and supportive leadership style.
- The ability to listen, build trust, and foster strong working relationships.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing nursing staff.
- A genuine passion for supporting professional growth and workforce development.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A commitment to culturally safe, patient-centred care.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare delivery.

White Cross New Brighton is a well-established clinic serving the New Brighton community and surrounding areas. Located in one of Christchurch's growing coastal suburbs, the clinic provides accessible, high-quality healthcare and is supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
White Cross Aranui is a smaller community-focused clinic located nearby, with a supportive multidisciplinary team and two experienced nurses. The clinic is known for its collaborative and welcoming environment, where team members work closely together to deliver quality care to the local community.
