Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Strengthening Gender Equality and GBV Lifesaving Prevention and Response Services for Women and Girls in Cabo Delgado is a project funded by the Gender Envelop of UN OCHA’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). The project will be implemented in partnership with the government and Women-Led Organizations. The project responds to the acute humanitarian crisis in northern Mozambique, where conflict, recurrent displacement, and climate shocks have severely disrupted lives and livelihoods. Women and girls—particularly adolescent girls, female-headed households, older women, and persons with disabilities—face heightened risks of gender-based violence, exploitation, and exclusion from decision-making. This will be achieved through the establishment of safe spaces for women and girls; provision of emergency lifesaving cash vouchers; provision of GBV case management and provision of psychosocial support to GBV survivors and institutional capacity strengthening of women led organizations.

To ensure effective visibility of the CERF project and all projects implemented in Cabo Delgado province, documentation, and communication of programme results and impact, the Communications Associate will support the development of communication products, capture stories from the field, document key achievements and lessons learned, manage digital content, and strengthen the visibility of humanitarian and gender equality interventions among donors, partners, and the wider public.

Reporting to the NATIONAL COMMUNICATION AND VISIBILITY CONSULTANT, the Communications Associate will support the implementation of the Country Office’s communications and visibility priorities, with particular focus on Cabo Delgado. The incumbent will document programme results, produce high-quality communications and multimedia products, support digital communications and media engagement, and strengthen the visibility of UN Women’s humanitarian and development interventions and the contributions of its partners and donors.

Given the operational context of Cabo Delgado and the need for timely documentation of programme results, donor visibility, humanitarian interventions, advocacy initiatives, and beneficiary stories, the Communications Associate is expected to have strong technical skills in graphic design, photography, videography, video editing, digital storytelling, and social media management. The role requires the ability to independently produce high-quality multimedia content for multiple platforms while ensuring compliance with UN Women branding and visibility standards.
