Payments is evolving rapidly. Real-time payments, ISO 20022, open APIs and AI are changing how money moves, while we continue to modernise and simplify the platforms behind it.
As a Senior Solutions Architect, you'll shape the solutions that enable this change, ensuring they are secure, resilient, reusable and aligned to our Payments strategy and enterprise architecture.
You'll lead end-to-end solution architecture across account-to-account payments, spanning domestic, international and high-value payment ecosystems. Working across multiple delivery crews, you'll set architectural direction, connect decisions across initiatives and help teams make pragmatic trade-offs between strategic direction and delivery needs.

You'll join the Payments Technology architecture community, working across domestic, high-value and international payments and partnering closely with engineering, product, security, risk, business and enterprise architecture teams.
This role suits someone who can see beyond an individual solution to understand the broader ecosystem, dependencies, trade-offs and longer-term implications of technology decisions.
In this role, you will
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture for complex payment initiatives across multiple crews.
- Shape Payments domain architecture and translate strategic direction into practical solution designs.
- Establish and promote reusable architecture patterns, guardrails and API standards.
- Guide engineering and delivery teams to apply architecture standards consistently while making pragmatic trade-offs across cost, risk, resilience, performance and delivery.
- Design secure, scalable and highly available solutions that meet resilience, risk and regulatory expectations.
- Own significant architecture decisions from concept through delivery, ensuring architectural intent is maintained as solutions evolve.
- Engage deeply with engineers and technical leads, challenge designs constructively and translate architecture into implementable patterns.
- Design for operability, observability, recoverability and production resilience.
- Identify practical opportunities for generative and agentic AI across the Payments technology landscape.
- Produce clear architecture artefacts and drive effective decisions through architecture and governance forums.
- Partner across enterprise architecture, engineering, security, risk, product and business teams to turn complex requirements into practical, future-ready solutions.
We're interested in hearing from people who
- You may already be a Senior Solutions Architect, or you may be an experienced Solution Architect, Technology Architect or Senior Engineering
- Lead ready to operate across a broader architecture landscape.
- Strong architecture capability, technical judgement and relevant domain experience matter more than your current title.
Payments expertise
- Strong experience within payments, ideally in a large financial institution or complex enterprise environment.
- Experience across several areas such as Australian domestic payments, international payments, correspondent banking, RTGS and high-value payment ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of ISO 20022 and end-to-end payment lifecycles.
Architecture and technology
- Strong architecture experience across APIs, microservices and event-driven systems.
- Experience designing cloud-native solutions, with AWS experience highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of integration patterns, security, resilience and non-functional design.
- Experience modernising complex or legacy platforms through domain decoupling, decomposition and progressive modernisation.
- Working knowledge of established architecture methods and practices.
- An understanding of generative and agentic AI, with the ability to identify where these technologies can add practical value.
