The role combines modern backend engineering, infrastructure automation, DevOps practices, and production operations. Engineers contribute across the full software lifecycle, from architecture and development through deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

The team also embraces AI-assisted software development, using tools such as Codex to accelerate engineering workflows while maintaining strong standards for code quality, security, and reliability.

As platform capabilities evolve, engineers will have opportunities to contribute to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrations that connect cloud services with AI agents.

Oracle India is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (IC4) with 7+ years of professional software engineering experience to design, develop, deploy, and operate highly available cloud-native backend services.

You will work on complex engineering challenges involving Java, SQL, distributed systems, microservices, infrastructure automation, and production service reliability.

In this hands-on role, you will build scalable backend capabilities, improve deployment automation, strengthen observability, and troubleshoot complex production incidents. You will collaborate with engineering, Support, and Operations stakeholders to deliver reliable services and continuous platform improvements.

You will also use Codex and other agentic development tools for code exploration, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation, while independently reviewing and validating generated output.

As the team's capabilities expand, you will contribute to the design, development, and operation of MCP servers and AI-agent integrations.

The role is suited to an experienced engineer who combines strong backend development fundamentals with practical cloud engineering, production ownership, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
