Job Summary
A plant inspector is responsible for performing quality control and safety checks on aggregate materials such as sand, gravel, and crushed stone. They ensure that the materials meet required specifications for use in construction and that plant operations adhere to all safety and environmental regulations. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in varying conditions.
Essential Functions
- Quality control and testing:
- Conduct frequent sampling and laboratory testing of aggregates to check for quality, size, and other required properties.
- Perform specific tests, including sieve analysis, to determine the gradation of materials.
- Monitor and adjust plant production to ensure the final product meets all specifications.
- Inspections and safety:
- Conduct visual inspections of plant equipment, including crushers, conveyors, and screens, to identify potential issues or defects.
- Help maintain a robust preventative maintenance program by documenting the condition of equipment and reporting items needing repair.
- Prioritize safety by adhering to all protocols and regulations set by agencies such as the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
- Promptly report all safety concerns, incidents, and equipment malfunctions.
- Documentation and communication:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspection findings, test results, and maintenance activities.
- Assist in compiling and reporting summaries of testing results from completed projects.
- Provide clear and effective communication to supervisors, plant operators, and quality control staff.
