Stantec is seeking an on-call Archaeologist with demonstrated experience in Ohio, Michigan, and/or adjacent states to lead archaeological field projects in the Great Lakes region. This is a career opportunity for an archaeologist to support a growing cultural resources team for a leading environmental consulting firm and has the potential to become a full-time salaried position. This team provides Section 106/NEPA analyses, technical studies, and project permitting for a wide variety of private and federal, state, and local government clients in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the United States.
The individual will lead archaeological field projects, including direction of field studies and field teams, oversight of digital data collection, QA/QC of field data, and responsibility for on-site safety. It is anticipated that field projects will primarily be Phase I surveys and monitoring.
Work will be archaeological fieldwork involving travel. The work may require shovel testing, test unit excavation, soil profile description, in-field artifact analyses, preparation of detailed field notes and archaeological site records. You must be able and willing to work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. Must demonstrate awareness for workplace safety; and be willing to work independently when conditions are appropriate or with limited supervision.
Your Key Responsibilities

- Provide supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to junior staff in the field.
- Apply technical and common-sense methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.
