At eBay, the Buyer Destination team builds discovery experiences that help millions of customers explore, engage with, and purchase items across our marketplace.
Our Events, Deals & Live Hub team powers some of eBay's most visible shopping destinations, including eBay Live, curated shopping events, and category-specific discovery experiences. From live shopping and major cultural moments to destinations for Motors, Fashion, and Trading Cards, our work connects customers with relevant inventory and exciting opportunities to shop.
As Events and Browse evolve toward a unified engineering platform, we're focused on creating more consistent, scalable discovery experiences while supporting products that are critical to eBay's business.
The Role
We are looking for a Staff Android Engineer to help build and evolve the native Android experiences that connect customers with eBay's discovery destinations.
You'll bring deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android architecture to deliver high-quality, reliable mobile experiences. Working closely with product, design, business, and engineering partners, you'll tackle complex technical challenges, influence architectural decisions, and help shape how we build for the future.
This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys solving meaningful product problems, delivering in fast-moving environments, and raising the engineering bar.
What You Will Accomplish
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android experiences using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Contribute to customer-facing discovery experiences across eBay's Events, Deals, Live Hub, and Browse destinations.
- Lead complex technical initiatives and influence Android architecture, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-visibility features that support important shopping moments and business priorities.
- Help evolve engineering practices as discovery experiences become more integrated across eBay's platform.
- Champion engineering quality through automated testing, TDD, code reviews, pairing, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate effectively across geographically distributed teams.
What You Will Bring
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, including 8+ years building Android applications.
- Advanced proficiency in Kotlin and hands-on experience developing modern Android UIs with Jetpack Compose.
- Strong understanding of Android architecture patterns such as MVVM/MVI, Android architecture components, Coroutines, Flow, and dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and building scalable, maintainable, production-quality mobile applications.
- Demonstrated ability to own complex, long-term engineering initiatives and influence technical decisions.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, including experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams.
- Commitment to software quality, testing, Agile/Scrum delivery, and continuous improvement.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field is welcome, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued.
Nice to Have
- Experience developing consumer-facing Android applications for e-commerce, marketplaces, or discovery-driven products.
- Experience with service-driven architectures and complex API integrations.
- Experience improving Android application performance, reliability, or developer productivity.
- Contributions to published Android applications or open-source Android projects.

Additional Details
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$136,000 - $228,600Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
