Position Summary
The Summer 2027 PLC & Automation Engineering Intern will support projects focused on industrial automation, programmable logic controllers, control systems, instrumentation, equipment reliability, and operational improvement at the FTSO Fairfield Plant. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while working with engineering, maintenance, reliability, and operations teams to complete a defined summer project.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety requirements and support a safe work environment.
- Collect and analyze equipment, controls, maintenance, production, and reliability data to support engineering decisions.
- Assist with PLC and automation projects, control system troubleshooting, instrumentation reviews, equipment inspections, and continuous improvement activities.
- Work with electrical, mechanical, automation, reliability, maintenance, and operations teams to identify and implement equipment and process improvements.
- Prepare clear reports, technical recommendations, system documentation, and a final project presentation.
- Participate in intern programming, development activities, and site events.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Returning to school after the Summer 2027 internship.
- Strong analytical, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a plant environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work onsite at the FTSO Fairfield Plant in Fairfield, Alabama.
