Online shopping scams, imposter schemes, deep-fakes and consumer fraud are on the rise in Canada. CBC News is developing  a new Scams unit to unearth deceptive practices and help Canadians make sense of what they can do to protect themselves.

We’re looking for a Producer who will not only help shape the programming while championing great journalistic content and the people behind it but isn’t afraid to be the face of it when needed.

You’re a skilled journalist with experience in daily news and enterprise stories. You have exceptional research skills, experience with scams or fraud investigations and are  comfortable using open source information and digital forensic technologies to break new stories.

Reporting to the Senior Producer, you’re someone who brings both strong editorial leadership and logistical expertise to the role. You understand the important role of a public service broadcaster in helping Canadians make sense of their world. You’re the person on the front-line upholding the upholding the CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and our core principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity.

You’re an ideas generator, pitching stories and thinking about creative treatments to attract new and younger audiences. While you are adept at writing and editing video, audio and text-based content, you excel at mobile short-form video journalism, understanding what draws a viewer into your story and what keeps them engaged. You put the audience-first in your decision-making, vetting, producing, and are constantly searching for new voices and new perspectives to ensure our story-telling reflects the complexity and rich diversity of Canada.

You demonstrate daily the role of a public broadcaster in a media landscape proliferated with misinformation and rapidly evolving technologies. Verification is a core value. You lean into data, and use it to drive audience-focused storytelling.

You don’t wait to be assigned. You have initiative and can translate big ideas into tangible actions.

You’re a trend-setter, able to spot the latest in formats, tools and technologies and a willingness to experiment with same. You understand where new and younger audiences are finding their news - live and on-demand - and you’re focused on meeting them where they are at.

You understand that stories can break at any time of the day and you have a genuine desire to be on-top of that coverage. While this is a 5 day a week, Monday-Friday role, you recognize that you may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and some overtime when needed to cover breaking news. As collaboration is key with this new team, you will be required to be on-site.
