Senior Front-End Engineer – AI Applications
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to design and develop secure, accessible, and intuitive user interfaces for enterprise AI assistants, copilots, agentic workflows, and operational dashboards.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern front-end architecture, with experience integrating user interfaces with AI services, agent platforms, and enterprise APIs.
This role will focus on creating reliable AI-powered experiences that clearly communicate AI-generated content, citations, tool activity, workflow progress, limitations, and actions requiring human approval. The individual will work closely with AI engineers, UX designers, product managers, security teams, and platform engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop enterprise AI assistants, copilots, conversational interfaces, agent workflows, and operational dashboards.
- Build scalable and maintainable applications using React, TypeScript, and modern front-end frameworks.
- Create reusable UI components and contribute to enterprise design systems.
- Integrate front-end applications with AI, agent, RAG, and enterprise APIs.
- Implement streaming AI responses using technologies such as Server-Sent Events or WebSockets.
- Manage AI interaction states, including processing, tool execution, approval required, completed, cancelled, timed out, and failed.
- Build interfaces that clearly present AI-generated content, citations, sources, tool activity, system status, limitations, and human-approval requirements.
- Implement confirmation and approval controls for sensitive or consequential agent actions.
- Develop data-rich dashboards and present operational or analytical information through appropriate visualizations.
- Develop responsive and accessible interfaces aligned with WCAG 2.2 Level AA or applicable organizational standards.
- Implement secure authentication, authorization, session management, and role-based access.
- Safely render untrusted AI-generated content, including Markdown, links, citations, and files, and sanitize HTML when its rendering is explicitly required.
- Develop automated component, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Optimize front-end performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews and promote secure front-end engineering practices.
Required Skills and Experience
Front-End Engineering
- Strong professional experience with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with Next.js or a comparable modern React framework.
- Strong understanding of component architecture, state management, data fetching, and asynchronous user interactions.
- Experience building reusable components and working with enterprise design systems or UI-component libraries.
- Experience developing enterprise dashboards using an appropriate data-visualization framework.
- Experience developing responsive and cross-browser applications.
- Knowledge of performance optimization, browser behavior, and front-end observability.
- Experience developing accessible applications aligned with WCAG 2.2 Level AA or comparable accessibility requirements.
AI Application Integration
- Experience building or integrating AI-powered, conversational, workflow-based, or other complex API-driven applications.
- Understanding of AI response streaming, conversation state, citations, tool activity, long-running workflows, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Ability to design appropriate loading, retry, cancellation, timeout, error, and recovery experiences.
- Experience integrating with REST APIs and real-time communication technologies such as Server-Sent Events or WebSockets.
- Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, OpenAI APIs, or comparable enterprise AI services.
- Understanding of the user-experience challenges associated with probabilistic, incomplete, or potentially inaccurate AI-generated responses.
Security and Quality
- Knowledge of secure front-end development, including cross-site scripting prevention, safe content rendering, Content Security Policy, and secure handling of client-side storage.
- Experience with OAuth, OpenID Connect, authentication, authorization, and secure session management.
- Understanding of secure front-end and backend integration patterns, including the use of approved backend or API layers for model access and sensitive operations.
- Understanding of how to protect API credentials, access tokens, conversation history, and sensitive user data.
- Experience with component, integration, and end-to-end testing using tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Cypress, or comparable frameworks.
- Experience using Git and working with CI/CD and software-release processes.
- Ability to independently review, debug, test, secure, and maintain human-written and AI-generated code.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Five or more years of professional front-end engineering or software-development experience.
- Demonstrated experience building production applications using React and TypeScript.
- Experience delivering enterprise applications in collaboration with product, UX, backend, security, and platform teams.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing AI assistants, copilots, or agent-orchestration interfaces.
- Experience implementing approval workflows, audit history, citations, source presentation, or AI-feedback mechanisms.
- Experience with data-visualization and dashboard frameworks such as Recharts, Plotly, D3.js, AG Grid, or comparable tools.
- Familiarity with RAG, AI agents, tool calling, and multi-agent workflows.
- Familiarity with Material UI, Tailwind CSS, or comparable component and styling frameworks.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Docker, and cloud-hosted front-end applications.
- Experience developing applications in regulated industries.
- Familiarity with responsible AI and human-centered AI design principles.
