Job Summary:
The Senior Network Engineer (WAN) within Global Connectivity Solutions (GCS) is responsible for executing vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, software upgrades, and technical change activities across enterprise WAN infrastructure. The role provides technical leadership for deployment activities, complex troubleshooting, change execution, and service restoration involving Cisco Routing and Switching, Versa SD-WAN, WAN links, and associated connectivity platforms.
The position works with Network Engineering, Network Operations, Information Security, Change Management, Outage Management, Product Owners, vendors, service providers, and other stakeholders to maintain platform currency, deliver remediation programs, and ensure production changes are implemented safely with minimal business disruption.
Job Description
- • Drive vulnerability remediation activities across Versa SD-WAN, Cisco Routing and Switching, and WAN connectivity platforms.
- • Perform software and firmware upgrades on Cisco ISR and ASR routers, Catalyst platforms supporting WAN connectivity, Versa SD-WAN controllers, branch edge devices, and supporting network infrastructure in line with approved engineering standards.
- • Review vendor security advisories, software recommendations, defects, and EOS/EOL notices, and translate applicable findings into remediation and lifecycle activities.
- • Ensure WAN network devices remain compliant with approved software versions, security standards, operational guidelines, and remediation timelines.
- • Manage software lifecycle and platform currency for Cisco routing and switching platforms and Versa SD-WAN infrastructure.
- • Plan and execute code upgrades, patch deployments, configuration updates, platform remediation, technology refresh, and WAN modernization activities.
- • Perform pre-upgrade assessments, compatibility reviews, configuration validation, risk analysis, and post-upgrade health checks.
- • Prepare implementation plans, rollback procedures, validation plans, technical assessments, stakeholder communications, and deployment documentation.
- • Create and maintain Change Requests, Change Tasks, implementation records, approvals, technical evidence, and closure documentation in accordance with EY processes.
- • Present technical changes during CAB reviews and address implementation, impact, risk, dependency, validation, and recovery considerations.
- • Coordinate testing, outage planning, deployment execution, stabilization, and post-implementation validation across technical teams and stakeholders.
- • Perform advanced troubleshooting of Versa SD-WAN overlays, underlay WAN connectivity, routing protocols, and enterprise routing infrastructure.
- • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving BGP, OSPF, route policies, path selection, WAN failover, VPN services, traffic steering, QoS, and application forwarding policies.
- • Diagnose and resolve issues affecting WAN links, ISP circuits, SD-WAN fabric health, branch connectivity, cloud connectivity, and data center interconnects.
- • Work with vendors, carriers, service providers, and internal teams to restore services and resolve complex technical issues.
- • Serve as the technical lead for incidents affecting WAN infrastructure, routing platforms, SD-WAN services, and production upgrade activities.
- • Participate in outage calls, major incident bridges, and technical recovery activities; perform root cause analysis and define corrective and preventive actions.
- • Support Problem Management by analyzing recurring issues, identifying trends, and driving permanent technical resolutions.
- • Lead assigned remediation waves, upgrade deployments, infrastructure refreshes, and network improvement initiatives.
- • Coordinate testing, validation, implementation, and stabilization activities, and track technical risks, dependencies, actions, and delivery progress.
- • Provide operational feedback, implementation considerations, and technical recommendations for proposed network design changes when requested.
- • Maintain implementation procedures, operational runbooks, remediation documentation, software compliance records, upgrade history, and deployment outcomes.
- • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, compliance validation, monitoring, analytics, and operational efficiency.
- • Provide technical guidance to Associate and Senior Associate engineers and support consistent execution of WAN remediation and lifecycle activities.
Knowledge & Competencies Required:
- • Strong hands-on knowledge of Versa SD-WAN, including Versa Director and Analytics, SD-WAN overlays, underlay connectivity, traffic steering, and branch edge operations.
- • Strong expertise in Cisco routing technologies, including ISR and ASR platforms, and Cisco switching platforms supporting WAN connectivity.
- • Advanced understanding of BGP, OSPF, routing policies, route selection, redundancy, VPN services, QoS, and WAN failover.
- • Experience troubleshooting WAN links, ISP circuits, branch connectivity, SD-WAN fabric health, cloud connectivity, and data center interconnects.
- • Experience assessing vendor security advisories and delivering vulnerability remediation, firmware lifecycle, patching, and infrastructure upgrade activities.
- • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, impact assessment, and service restoration capabilities.
- • Working knowledge of ITIL practices, particularly Change, Incident, Problem, Risk, and Release Management.
- • Ability to prepare implementation plans, rollback procedures, validation plans, technical documentation, and CAB presentations.
- • Experience coordinating production deployments, outage windows, vendors, carriers, service providers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- • Knowledge of network monitoring, observability, analytics, and automation platforms.
- • Automation or scripting knowledge using APIs, Python, Ansible, or related tools is desirable.
- • Strong ownership, sound technical judgement, risk-based decision making, and attention to operational safety.
- • Good communication, stakeholder management, influencing, and technical leadership skills within a global matrixed environment.
- • Willingness to work in a global support model, including rotational shifts and support activities across multiple time zones.
- • Flexibility to support planned maintenance, production deployments, software upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and incident recovery outside regular business hours when required.
- • Ready to travel when required and able to collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams, vendors, service providers, and stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in enterprise WAN network engineering, SD-WAN, routing and switching, lifecycle management, or related network technology support.
Certification Requirements:
CCNP Enterprise preferred; CCNA required. Versa certification and ITIL v4 are value adds.
